THE BUSH FAMILY

EUGENIA BUSH

I have mentioned that Miss Eugenia was plagued with psychological problems. Perhaps with all the medical profession now knows in this field she might have been helped. I know that my father was stumped. But she was well-loved, and encouraged, and treated with the utmost patience and care. When she was with us she seemed mostly content, though rather detached and a bit lost.
I well remember as a baby of three enjoying her company very much; I knew there was a welcome place for se on her lap. Often we would all be on the porch on a sunny day. Someone would lift me up and set me on Miss Eugenia's lap, and she would rock me, and I suppose I talked my baby talk to her.
I have a photo of us together like this. I am holding a very large, full-blown, white rose and intently pulling it apart.
My mother told me that some thoughtless person said to her, "Anna, aren't you afraid to have Miss Eugenia hold her? You never know what she might do!"
Mama laughed and said "She'll be fine. It's nice for both of them. Anyway, I'm here."
And that is really all I can recall about Miss Eugenia; I wish there were more.
