El Son del Pueblo
El Son del Pueblo

El Son del Pueblo, based in Southern California, was created in 2001 with the aim of contributing to the diffusion of the son jarocho beyond its birthplace in Veracruz, Mexico.

John Robles is from Santa Paula, California, and has an unbelievable ear for picking up music; thus he has "studied" with many of the great Veracruz musicians through recordings. He has also learned directly from master classes with musicians such as the famous Veracruz harpist Mario Barradas Múrcia, Ruben Vasquez Dominguez and Alberto de le Rosa. Besides the harp, he plays jarana, requinto and several other instruments.

Jorge Mijangos is from San Cristóbal de Las Cases, Chiapas, Mexico, and has identified with jarocho music and culture for many years. In addition to playing the jarana, he is a first-rate guitarist and singer and performs with instruments and musical styles from various parts of Latin America. When he is not making music, his creativity is focused on the construction of quality handmade jaranas and requintos.
