Stephanie Sivers possesses qualities as a vocalist and a performer that
captivate audiences. Her pure, yet richly colored voice and nearly four-octave
range yields a unique sound comprised of jazz & blues elements with touches
of classical tones. Stephanie's passionate interpretation of jazz standards and
profound understanding of the texts allow the listener to be emotionally moved.
Trained by some of the finest musicians in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles
and Santa Barbara, Stephanie brings years of study, performing experience and
attention to detail into each and every concert, appearance, or recording project.
Stephanie, a native Santa Barbaran, has been the recipient of several Santa
Barbara & California based vocal awards. They include the Santa Barbara
Foundation Peabody Music Grant, the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation Competition,
and The Léni Fé Bland Competition Grant. In addition, she received
other notable vocal scholarships from the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado and
from her university, C.S.U.C., during undergraduate studies.
Her newly found love for singing torch/jazz came from a seed planted at a young
age when she listened to the sounds of big band, swing and early jazz. Those
sounds stayed with Stephanie as she began studying classical music. Years later,
in New York City, she studied music with a young and promising professional
jazz pianist and was inspired to open up the confines of traditional classical
music. Upon meeting pianist John Douglas in Santa Barbara, Stephanie was further
motivated to sing notes and phrasing that most classically trained singers may
not chose to explore.
Stephanie describes singing in the genres of torch/jazz as finding her home
in music. "Singing torch and jazz is comfortable, freeing and coming from
the deepest truths inside of me. Whether I am singing a ballad, or an up- tempo
song, I am expressing a facet of my multilayered self".
