Pianist Zeynep Ucbasaran was born in Istanbul, Turkey.
At age four, she entered the Istanbul Conservatory and studied with
Rana Erksan and Ozen Veziroglu.
In 1987 Ucbasaran enrolled in the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest,
where she studied under Prof. Zempleni Kornel, Prof. Katalin Nemes (pupil
of Bela Bartok), Balazs Kecskes, and Prof. Istvan Lantos.
After obtaining her Teacher and Concert Artist Diploma, in 1994 she entered Hochschule
fur Musik, Freiburg, Germany and continued her studies with Prof. Dr.
Tibor Szasz, and obtained her Diploma in Aufbaustudium I.
She has a MM degree in Piano Performance from the University of Southern
California, Los Angeles (2000), where she studied with John Perry.
Zeynep has given recitals and concerts in Turkey, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia,
and the United States in addition to several chamber music performances.
In 1996 Ucbasaran won the Second Prize at the Los Angeles Liszt Competition.
She was awarded an Honorable Mention in the same competition in 2000. Her awards
include American Liszt Society Award, the Rozsnyai Memorial Award, Ina Broida
Award from the University of California, Santa Barbara, University of Southern
California Associates Music Merit Scholarship, and MAA 2001 Aspen Summer Music
Festival Scholarship.
Since 1996 she has been living in Santa Barbara, California.
In February 2002, she completed recording a collection of virtuoso solo piano
works of Franz Liszt in Abravanel Hall, Music
Academy of the West in Santa Barbara. This CD titled Santa
Barbara Liszt Album is being released by Eroica Classical Recordings
(Eroica JDT3092).
